Ten Reasons Why People Buy Things Part 5
In the fifteenth of our series of informative articles on the honest way to earn an income online, we look at the fifth of of ten reasons why people buy things.
And so we get to the mid point with the fifth instalment of this ten part mini-series covering 10 reasons why people buy things. So far we've looked at the fact that people buy things to relieve stress, to replace an existing item, for emotional satisfaction and for entertainment. Now, in Part 5, we look at the 6th reason why people buy things…
Reason 6: Relaxation
You might say that relaxation could be grouper under the same banner as entertainment as covered in an earlier article as they are certainly closely related, both being activities that people enjoy doing. The difference is that while entertainment can be seen as an active pastime, relaxation is more passive.
To put this into perspective, take an average working day as an example. Many people come home at the end of a long day at work and want to eat a nice, hot meal followed by some quality time lounging on a couch or favourite chair reading a book, or newspaper or magazine, or having a short nap. This is relaxing – switching off from the stresses of that hard day at work. Some people like to do crosswords, or number puzzles, some like to have light conversation with their partners or families.
As marketers, we need to know how to take advantage of that when trying to make a sale.
Of course, we don't all sell products or services that could be described as relaxing. However there is a way to turn that to our advantage by stressing to our potential customers that by having our product or using our service they will save time or reduce in some way the burden of their workload thereby giving them more time to relax.
For example, say you design website templates and sell them as part of your online business. By telling people, via your sales copy that by using your templates they will save enormous amounts of their time by not having to do the design themselves and simply plug in their own links and text, they will have all that extra time to relax. Better to spend that time relaxing than sweating over pages of html code and trying to work out where it all goes.
Alternatively, you may have a software program that produces quality articles so a customer can produce lots of good, unique content for their website. You can stress that by buying this tool, it will save them countless hours of writing time giving them more time to relax while reaping the rewards of the software's labour rather than their own. There is in fact such a product that has just been released onto the market. It's called Instant Article Wizard by Jonathan Leger.
Incidentally, The Honest Way was one of the first affiliate sites to promote this amazing new software tool. If you feel this is something you believe you can really use, follow the link to the sales page and see for yourself how much time and writing effort it will save you as well as give you more time to relax!
See how that works?
At the other end of the scale, you could, of course be in a business that specialises in relaxation to start with. Just one such business is selling vacations. You only have to find some of the websites that deal with online holidays and you'll immediately see that by sending families on vacation and taking all the donkey work out of it, like making reservations, booking flights etc you are actually selling relaxation. That's as good as it gets!
So what it comes down to is that when someone is making a purchase from you, they should feel that they're buying something that will take some of the stress out of life, making things easier for them so they can relax a bit more. If you can succeed in getting that point over in your sales copy, you give yourself a much greater chance of grabbing that sale. Which will relax you too!
